Scientific method of spray management for high yield of Pigeon pea (Details)
Pigeon pea is an important crop in Maharashtra. Proper management is needed to increase the production of Pigeon pea. These include pest and disease control, proper fertilizer management and spraying practices. For this, if the scientific method is adopted, besides increasing the production, the quality also improves. In this article we are going to go into detail about the methods to be used for the production of Pigeon pea.
1. How to properly cultivate Pigeon pea?
Proper cultivation is essential for good production of Pigeon pea. Special precautions should be taken while cultivating Pigeon pea after harvesting soybeans. Deep tillage near the trunk of the Pigeon pea should be avoided, as this may damage the roots. If the roots are broken, the Pigeon pea plant will be affected and the yield will be affected. Light cultivation should be done at a distance of about one and a half to two feet from the trunk of the Pigeon pea. This will improve growth without damaging the roots of the plant.
2. Water management
It is essential to water the Pigeon pea at the right time and in the right amount. If the planning of watering is wrong, the flowers of the crop will be stunted and the yield will decrease, but watering the Pigeon pea at the bud stage, however, it is necessary to give water before the beginning of flowering, because of this, the number of flowers will increase and the yield will be seen positively. Pigeon pea should not be watered during the flowering period, if watered, the flowers will die. (However, if water is given in the middle of the flower, the flowers drop) If the pods are 60 to 70 percent full, watering can give a good increase in yield.
3. Spray management for pest and disease control
Pests and diseases greatly affect the production of Pigeon pea. These problems can be controlled with proper spray management. In case of infestation of pests and diseases, the growth of crops is stunted, flowers fall off and yield decreases.
3.1 Major diseases of Pigeon pea and their control
Sterility Mosaic Disease: Sterility mosaic disease can result in significant reduction in yield. Pandasuper –30 ml to control this disease
+ Topup - 40 ml + Sulfur WDG - 25 g should be applied by spraying. (15 litres of water per pump)
Stem Canker: In case of canker on stem and branches of Pigeon pea, spray Blue Card/Copper Oxychloride - 50 gm and Streptocycline - 2 gm. This allows control of diseases (15 litres of water per pump).
Phytophthora blight: Heavy rains can cause red spots on the branches of the trees. These spots can be a sign of rot disease. To control this, spray Cryptox or Ridomil Gold - 30 g (15 litres of water per pump). Also, Trichoboost - 500 grams and Sudoboost - 500 grams per acre should be applied. It is beneficial to do it from the trunk
3.2 Control of Major Pests on Pigeon pea
Leafworm: Leafworm adversely affects crop yield. Spray Panda Super - 30 ml (15 litres of water per pump) to control this worm.
Pod borer: This is a pest that damages the grain of the pods. Iman - 10 g or Musket - 30 ml should be used to control it (15 litres of water per pump).
Legumes: Legumes are major pests of Pigeon pea pods. Proper spraying should be done to control it.
4. Precautions to be taken while spraying
Pests and diseases can be effectively controlled by using proper methods of spraying. The following should be observed while spraying:
Spraying should be done in the morning or in the evening: Spraying in the sun will not show the effect of the sprayed medicine. So it is better to spray in the morning or evening.
Check nozzles: Check whether nozzles and discs are in proper position while spraying.
Check the pH level of the water: If the pH (total) of the water is high, add lemon juice or lemon juice while spraying. This increases the effectiveness of spraying.
Clean water should be used: Using muddy water reduces the effectiveness of spraying. Therefore, spraying should be done using clean water only.
Timely spraying for worm control: Spraying should be done to control the worm before it becomes infested in the Pigeon pea.
5. Manure management and its impact
Application of fertilizers in right amount and at right time is important to increase the production of Pigeon pea
The following chemical fertilizers are recommended for Pigeon pea:
Apply 20 kg per acre of 20:20:00:13 or 24:24:00:08 fertilizers.
If the crop has not been fertilized before, apply the fertilizer by lightly tilling it near the trunk of the Pigeon pea.
For better root growth, use riser - 5 - 10 kg per acre along with manure.
